These Gyro Bowls are a delightful combination of flavorful meatballs, tangy tzatziki sauce, zesty lemon rice, and refreshing cucumber salad. A complete meal in a bowl that’s easy to assemble and bursting with Mediterranean flavors.

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground lamb, beef, or pork (lamb preferred)
  • ¼ cup minced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup finely crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Greek seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Tzatziki:

  • 12 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, to taste
  • 1/2 European cucumber, peeled, grated, drained
  • 1 cup plain yogurt, drained
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Lemon Rice:

  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • Juice of one half lemon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, to taste

For the Cucumber & Tomato Salad:

  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced, halved, or chopped
  • 1 cup diced cucumber, drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt, to taste

For Serving:

  • Hummus
  • Olive oil
  • Crumbled feta
  • Kalamata olives
  • Chopped dill
  • Chopped parsley
  • Sumac
  • Pitas

Instructions

  1. For the Meatballs: Preheat oven to 425°F. Mix all meatball ingredients, form into balls, and bake for 10-14 minutes.
  2. For the Tzatziki: Combine all ingredients in a bowl, adjust seasoning, and set aside.
  3. For the Lemon Rice: Mix cooked rice with lemon juice and salt, adjust seasoning, and set aside.
  4. For the Cucumber & Tomato Salad: Combine all ingredients, adjust salt, and set aside.
  5. To Assemble the Bowls: Divide rice into bowls, top with meatballs, tzatziki, cucumber & tomato salad, and garnishes. Serve.

Notes

  • Ensure cucumber is well drained to prevent excess liquid in tzatziki.
  • Adjust mint and dill in tzatziki to personal preference.
  • Drain cucumber well for salad to avoid excess moisture.
