Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

Coleslaw

  • 1 (397g) bag coleslaw
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey

Wonton Tacos and Garnishes

  • 16 Wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray or olive/canola oil, for brushing
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray wonton wrappers lightly with cooking spray or brush them with olive or canola oil. Drape the wrappers over the sides of a 9×13 baking dish to form shell shapes. Bake for 7-8 minutes carefully watching to avoid burning. Remove from oven and gently separate the shells while pliable to make filling easier. Bake an additional 7-8 minutes until the shells are golden and crispy.
  2. Cook Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the finely diced chicken breasts with hoisin sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and minced fresh ginger. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sauté the chicken mixture for 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the chicken is fully cooked and coated with the sauce.
  3. Make Coleslaw: In a separate large bowl, mix the bagged coleslaw and thinly sliced green onions. Add 1 tbsp sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey to the vegetables, tossing well to combine all the flavors evenly.
  4. Assemble Tacos: Spoon the cooked chicken mixture into each crispy wonton shell. Top each with a generous amount of the prepared coleslaw. Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the top, then garnish with chopped cilantro and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy the contrast of crunchy and savory flavors!

Notes

  • Watch the wonton shells closely in the oven to prevent burning.
  • Make sure to separate the wonton shells while warm as they are more pliable.
  • You can adjust the sweetness or spice level of the sweet chili sauce to taste.
  • For a spicier twist, add chopped fresh chili or sriracha to the chicken marinade.
  • Substitute chicken breasts with thigh meat for a juicier option.
  • These can be made ahead by preparing chicken and coleslaw separately; assemble just before serving to keep shells crispy.
