Donut Batter
- 1/4 cup melted regular or vegan butter
- 1 1/4 cup regular milk, oat milk, or almond milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups regular or gluten free all purpose flour
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Vanilla Glaze (optional)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp regular milk, oat milk, or almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure a hot environment for even baking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted regular or vegan butter, chosen milk (regular, oat, or almond), sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Stir these ingredients together until well blended.
- Add Flour: Gradually mix in the regular or gluten free all purpose flour into the wet mixture. Stir gently until just combined to avoid overmixing, which could make the donuts dense.
- Fold in Blueberries: Carefully fold in the fresh or frozen blueberries into the batter, taking care not to crush them.
- Prepare Donut Molds: Grease 14-16 donut molds lightly with oil or butter to prevent sticking.
- Fill Molds: Spoon the batter evenly into each donut mold, filling them without overfilling to allow room for the donuts to rise.
- Bake Donuts: Place the molds in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the donuts comes out clean.
- Cool Donuts: Remove the donut pan from the oven and let the donuts cool in the molds for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
- Prepare Optional Glaze: In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth to create a vanilla glaze.
- Glaze Donuts: Once the donuts have cooled completely, drizzle or dip them in the vanilla glaze if desired. The glaze is optional and will add extra sweetness but is not required.
Notes
- You can use regular or vegan butter and any milk alternative like oat or almond milk to accommodate dietary preferences.
- Using fresh or frozen blueberries works equally well; just avoid thawing frozen blueberries completely to prevent color bleeding.
- Do not overfill the donut molds to prevent batter overflow during baking.
- Donuts are delicious without the glaze and the glaze is not included in the nutritional information.
- Ensure not to overmix the batter once flour is added to keep donuts light and fluffy.
- Non-stick donut pans or well-greased molds will make removal easier.
