Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Custard

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs (thyme, oregano, or basil, optional)

Fillings

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, or your choice)
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon, sausage, or ham (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped vegetables (bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, onions, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter (for sautéing vegetables)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) for an evenly baked quiche with a golden top.
  2. Prepare the Pie Crust: Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish by pressing it gently into the bottom and sides. Trim any excess crust over the edges. If using a store-bought crust that requires pre-baking, follow the package instructions to prevent sogginess.
  3. Cook the Fillings: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped vegetables until tender, about 5-7 minutes, then let them cool slightly. Ensure any meat used (bacon, sausage, or ham) is thoroughly cooked and crumbled.
  4. Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk or heavy cream, salt, pepper, and dried herbs if using, until fully combined and smooth.
  5. Assemble the Quiche: Evenly spread the cooked vegetables and/or crumbled meat over the pie crust. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top, then pour the egg mixture evenly over all the ingredients.
  6. Bake: Place the quiche in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top turns lightly golden. A clean knife inserted into the center should come out without wet custard.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the quiche cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes before slicing. This resting time allows the custard to set fully for clean slices and a better texture.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, consider blind baking the pie crust for 10 minutes before assembling.
  • Feel free to customize the fillings with your favorite meats and vegetables.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free option, substitute plant-based milks and cheeses.
  • The quiche can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • Leftover quiche is great served cold or at room temperature, making it a perfect make-ahead meal.
