These easy no-fail flat dumplings are a comforting classic, perfect for a hearty meal. Tender chicken and fluffy dumplings in a creamy white sauce make this dish a family favorite.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 1 package chicken thighs with skins, at least 6
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Dumplings

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, more for work surface
  • 3/4 to 1 cup fresh chicken broth, from cooked chicken
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

White Sauce (only make the white sauce if you’re serving the same day)

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Chicken – Add the chicken to a large pot of water. Add the bouillon cubes, salt & pepper and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, then shred the chicken.
  2. Dumplings – Mix flour, salt, and pepper. Add chicken broth and sour cream. Roll out dough, cut into strips, and cook in broth.
  3. White Sauce – Whisk cornstarch into milk. Add to hot broth, stir until thickened. Serve over dumplings and chicken.

Notes

  • Refrigerate any leftovers. When reheating, add a bit of milk or chicken broth if sauce is low.
