Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Seasoning

  • 2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated seamless crescent dough sheet
  • 11/2 teaspoons taco seasoning, divided
  • 20 pretzel sticks, broken in half

Spread

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup guacamole

Decorations

  • 2 medium sweet yellow peppers
  • 1 medium sweet red pepper
  • 1 medium green pepper
  • Chopped fresh cilantro, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the crescent dough base of the appetizers.
  2. Prepare Dough Rectangles: On an ungreased baking sheet, unroll one tube of crescent dough and press it into a 13×8-inch rectangle. Prick the dough with a fork to prevent bubbling, then sprinkle with 3/4 teaspoon of taco seasoning evenly. Repeat this step with the second dough tube and remaining taco seasoning.
  3. Bake Dough: Bake both rectangles in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. After baking, transfer the dough rectangles to wire racks to cool completely.
  4. Cut Dough into Tree Shapes: Once cooled, cut each rectangle crosswise into four strips approximately 8×4 inches each. For the tree shapes, cut each strip into 5 triangles, reserving any scraps at the ends for another use. Insert a half pretzel stick into the base of each triangle to serve as tree trunks.
  5. Prepare Guacamole Spread: In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese together with the guacamole until the mixture is smooth and creamy—this will be the flavorful spread for the tree bases.
  6. Spread Guacamole Mixture: Generously spread the cream cheese and guacamole mixture over each crescent tree shape, covering the surface evenly.
  7. Prepare Pepper Decorations: Halve and seed the yellow, red, and green sweet peppers. Using a 3/4-inch star-shaped cookie cutter, cut 40 stars from the yellow peppers. Dice the remaining pepper halves into small pieces and julienne some for varying decorative shapes for the tree ornaments.
  8. Decorate Trees: Use the yellow pepper stars, diced, and julienned pepper pieces to decorate the guacamole-covered dough trees, creating a festive appearance. Optionally, sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro over the top for added color and fresh flavor.
  9. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the decorated guacamole tree appetizers until ready to serve to keep the cream cheese spread firm and flavors fresh.

Notes

  • Ensure the crescent dough is pressed evenly into the rectangle to bake uniformly.
  • Use fresh, ripe guacamole for the best flavor in the spread.
  • Pretzel sticks provide a sturdy and edible trunk for the tree shapes.
  • Keep the appetizers refrigerated until serving to maintain freshness and texture.
  • Leftover dough scraps can be baked separately or used for other appetizers.
