  • 2 cups long-grain white rice (such as basmati)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups water

Additional Ingredients:

  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Rice: Rinse the rice in a bowl or fine mesh strainer under cold water until the water runs clear, about 1 minute.
  2. Toast the Rice: In a medium pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the rinsed rice and salt, and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is slightly toasted.
  3. Cook the Rice: Add the water, lemon zest, and lemon juice to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover. Let the rice simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Let the Rice Rest: After 15 minutes, remove the pot from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Finish and Serve: If desired, sprinkle turmeric over the rice and fluff with a fork to combine. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
