Broth and Flavorings

  • 7 cups chicken broth
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp oil for sautéing
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Main Ingredients

  • 1520 pieces frozen wontons or dumplings of choice
  • 1 bundle bok choy (or broccoli)

Garnish

  • 1/2 cup green onions, sliced
  • Chili oil, to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a large pot, heat 1 teaspoon of oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
  2. Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in the 7 cups of chicken broth, then stir in 1 tablespoon soy sauce and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook Wontons: Once the broth is boiling, add the frozen wontons to the pot. Cook for about 6 to 7 minutes until the wontons float to the surface and are cooked through.
  4. Add Vegetables: Add the bundle of bok choy (or broccoli) to the pot and simmer for an additional 1 minute until the vegetables are tender but still bright green.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with sliced green onions and a drizzle of chili oil. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if desired. Serve hot and enjoy a comforting bowl of wonton soup!

Notes

  • You can substitute bok choy with broccoli or other leafy greens like spinach.
  • Frozen wontons or dumplings work well for convenience, but fresh wontons can also be used if available.
  • Adjust the amount of chili oil based on your preference for spiciness.
  • If you prefer a richer broth, adding a splash of mushroom or oyster sauce can enhance umami flavor.
  • Season with salt and pepper at the end to taste, as the soy sauce already adds saltiness.
